P1 Weekly Learning Highlights 25th October 2024
We had a great week back after our October holidays.
This week we looked at the sound ‘n’, we worked on formation of n and the sound it makes. We recalled things that begin with n and also worked on sorting pictures that begin or end with the sound ‘n’. We also completed some word building of cvc words with magnetic boards.
In maths we looked at dot patterns for 3, 4 and 5, what patterns the children could see and then they had to circle them to show facts of 3, 4 and 5. We also looked at addition within 5.
We started our new topic Dinosaurs, we discussed what we already knew a
bout them and what we wanted to learn. We looked at when dinosaurs were alive and where they lived. We also looked at dinosaurs and their names.
In writing we built a simple sentence. We introduced the writing targets and we will try and remember to include these in our written. Capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop at the end of our sentence.
We listened to the story ‘Christopher Pumpkin’ and then we drew our own pumpkin and wrote a sentence about it. In Art we created our own Pumpkin Patch by using different coloured paper. Our finished pumpkins looked amazing and are displayed proudly outside our classroom.
We read the story ‘Pumpkin Soup’ and we got to help carve real pumpkins and explore them. We completed an activity related to it in our Literacy jotter.
In Religion we listened to the ‘Hail Mary’ prayer and know that Mary was Jesus’ mother.
Today we had our Outdoor Learning session. We gathered autumn leaves and created hedgehog and leaf pictures. We also used cutters to create shapes and patterns on the leaves.
We also had the chance to play on the scooters and bicycles and enjoy the loose play equipment.
Have a lovely weekend everyone and enjoy the Halloween Disco if you are going.
