Primary 2/1 Learning Highlights 13th December 2024

This week we have been learning all about the sounds ‘d’ and ‘u’. We have been practising making words using these sounds and we are getting more confident is reading cvc words too. We have listened to lots of Christmas stories this week and we particularly enjoyed reading ‘Snowmen at Night’. We practised our cutting skills to create our own snowmen pictures.

In maths, we have been revising missing numbers to 20. We were also practising estimating using the mini snowballs in our tuff tray.

This week we performed our Nativity show 3 times. Once for our Buddies and siblings and then twice for our families. Everyone was very proud of how well we sang and remembered our lines. On Thursday, we went along to St Peter’s Church for Mass and we sang some of our Nativity songs at the end of Mass for the parishioners. We received lots of compliments for our singing!

As we did so well with our Nativity performances we got a special treat on Thursday afternoon. We had a movie afternoon with popcorn and Mrs McKissack brought us special stickers and a chocolate lolly.

We have been making lots of different Christmas crafts this week which has been very exciting. We also set up a Santa’s Workshop in our role play area and we have enjoyed using the little hammers to make toys.

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Harrison – I enjoyed colouring in the elf.

Freddie – I enjoyed doing the Nativity.

Vihaan – I enjoyed playing Christmas games.

Elsie – I enjoyed making the snowman pictures.

Tyler – I enjoyed playing in Santa’s Workshop.

Miles – I enjoyed playing with the Santa.

Congratulations to Harrison who is our Reading Champion for this fortnight. He has been confidently reading CVC words. Also congratulations to Muhammad who is our Hot Chocolate Winner this week. He has been trying hard to be a good friend and was very good on stage at the Nativity.
