Primary 2/1 Learning Highlights 16th May 2025
This week we the Dragon visited and left us the story of the Three Little Pigs. We loved listening to the story and we were very excited with our first challenge. We had to build a house for one of the pigs using marshmallows and cocktail sticks. We worked with a partner and showed fantastic creativity and team working skills. Then the Big Bag Wolf (a hairdryer!) tried to blow the houses down. The wolf managed to blow the houses off the table but because of our great designs they didn’t break.
As part of our Fairyland work, we retold the story of the Three Little Pigs and recorded it on Seesaw. We remembered lots of details from the story and told it in the correct order. We also remembered ‘Once upon a time’ and ‘Happily ever after’.
In Maths, we have been learning about the greater than and less than symbols. We used Blockzilla from number blocks to help us put the correct symbol in the middle of the numbers.
In writing, we made wanted posters for the Big Bad Wolf. We wrote a description of the wolf and what crime he had committed. The part we liked the most was deciding how much money we should give as a reward.
In RE, we have continued to learn the Hail Mary. We now have a candle for our altar and we have been taking it in turns to ‘light’ the candle each morning and to turn it off at the end of the day. We have shown a respectful attitude by bowing our head before taking the candle from the altar.
The second challenge the dragon left us was a Huff and Puff Challenge. We had to be the Big Bad Wolf and use our biggest huffs and puffs to move objects from one side to the other. We all agreed that it was great fun but that blowing the peg over the line was very hard!
We have had lots of interest in building houses using the loose parts and construction materials.
Some of our personal highlights this week are:
Miles – I enjoyed doing the Huff and Puff Challenge.
Hallie – I enjoyed making the marshmallow houses.
Amariah – I enjoyed doing the greater than and less than.
Izhaan – I enjoyed making the block houses.
Zenith – I enjoyed trying to see who was telling the truth in the books.
Dhawan – I enjoyed playing with the block play.
Congratulations to Amariah who is this week’s Hot Chocolate winner. She showed confidence in using the greater than and less than symbols.
