Primary 2/1 Learning Highlights 7th March 2025

What a busy week we have had!

This week we have been learning all about Lent. We learned about Ash Wednesday and we attended Mass at St Peter’s. We were complimented by the staff for our respectful behaviour. We have been taking part in the Big Lenten Walk each day and have enjoyed walking round the playground to add to the total km for the school. We drew a picture to show our Lenten Promises and these are displayed in the classroom to remind us what we are going to try to do during Lent.

In Literacy, we have been learning the ‘th’ and ‘wh’ sounds. Miss Stebbing was very shocked when we all stuck out out tongues to make the ‘th’ sound but we reassured her that we were not being cheeky! During Outdoor Learning, we had to match the words on the cones with these sounds to pictures displayed around the playground. We worked well in teams to sound out the words.

In Maths, we have been learning about fractions. We know that when we make a half we split something into two equal pieces. We used pancakes on Tuesday to practise cutting something in half and we really enjoyed eating our maths materials! We also learned about splitting an amount in half by sharing. We used counters to practise this skill.

For Topic this week we have been learning all about ladybirds. We labelled the parts of the ladybird, sequenced the lifecycle and then wrote an information report about them. Ask us if we can remember any facts about ladybirds.

In our second Celtic Croft music session we learned all about Grumphies. We sang a song and did a funny dance. We then had to draw a Grumphie and 4 of them were chosen to go on a special poster. The other ones are going to go on a display in the area.

On Thursday, we took part in Big Yellow day to raise awareness about liver disease. It was also World Book Day so we spent some time with our P6 Reading Buddies. We got to do a book scavenger hunt in the area but the best activity was taking part in a Kahoot Quiz using the iPads. We can’t wait to use Kahoot again. We also relaxed and listened to some of the CBeebies Bedtime stories. The Reader Leaders brought us our Book Tokens and we were very excited to see the books we could buy.

For Outdoor Learning in the Woodlands we were making a little fire using some cotton wool. We tried hard to make the spark with the flints and we are going to keep practising to get even better!

Congratulations to Zenith who is our Hot Chocolate winner this week. She has been doing great work in the Woodlands during outdoor learning and even managed to make a little fire without any adult help. Also congratulations to Miles who is our Reading Champion for this fortnight.  He has been trying hard to read cvc words.
