P1 Weekly Highlights 25th April 2025

Welcome back everyone, we were so glad to see each other after our Easter Holidays and had lots of news to share.

This week we have been learning the sounds igh and ng.  We have also been practising all the sounds taught so far and our common words.

Tuesday was Earth Day, we read books about helping to look after the earth and had discussions about what we can do in our homes and schools to play our part to look after the earth.  We then wrote our ideas down for writing.  We made a paper plate craft and added these to our writing to make a display in our area.

We looked at the importance of recycling and sorted household items into the different coloured bins.  We watched a clip about recycling and where our rubbish goes to.

In Maths we looked at numbers to 30 recognising and writing the numbers.  We looked at tens and ones and how many tens and ones were in different numbers.

In Religion we discussed Jesus rising from the death on Easter Sunday and we made an empty tomb craft to show Jesus had risen.

Today we went up to the Woodlands for outdoor learning we used the materials of the woodlands to create pictures on paper.  We didn’t stick them down and when we were finished we returned the natural materials to the woodland floor.  We also litter picked as part of Earth Day and to help look after our planet.

Some of our personal highlights for the week are:

Emma ‘I am proud of my writing’

Cerys ‘ I am getting better with my counting’

Oskar ‘I liked learning new songs with Celtic Croft’

Franek ‘I liked learning about recycling’

Tiara ‘I liked learning about tens and ones’

Guhan Kumar ‘I liked making the Earth Day craft’.

Antosh ‘I liked playing in the woodlands’

Well done to   our Hot Chocolate Winner Dawid and Congratulations to Guhan Kumar our Reading Champion.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and a well-deserved rest after our first week back to school.
