P1 Learning Highlights 9th May 2025
We had a short but busy and exciting week.
The Dragon visited us again this week and delivered a book ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We read it as a class, and watched an animated version and acted out scenes in small groups. Mrs Meikle was particularly impressed with Guhan Kumar and Williams impression of the giant. Each group worked really well together.
The letter from the Dragon asked us to make some big leaves. He said the bigger the leaves the more magical they were. We went into the woods to look at leaves and their different shapes then enjoyed working outside painitng, chalking and colouring leaves.
We also started to make our own beanstalks, drawing a fantastic castle and making a fluffy cloud.
We have finished learning all our P1 sounds but continue to work on consolidating these to ensure we an recognise and use them independently. This week we focused on ng and igh. We used magnetic boards to build words using these sounds.
Today we had gym outside in the beautiful sunshine.
For outdoor learning today we went up to the Woodlands and tried to identify the different trees by looking at their leaves. We also drew some of the leaves.
All classes in the Infant Area worked collaboratively to make a display in rememberance of Pope Francis and we spoke about the new pope, Pope Leo XIV.
Well done to Emma this weeks Hot Chocolate Winner and congratulations to Cerys our Reading Champion.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone and enjoy the beautiful weather.
