Investigation work has been ongoing into the impact of the council's education network as a result of the criminal attack.

Primary 3 Learning highlights 16th May 2025

Hi to all Primary 3 families this week. I hope you have had a lovely week and have been enjoying the sun.

This week in our class we have been having a common word focus in literacy. We have been doing lots of reading and writing. We wrote steps on how to make a jam sandwich this week and I followed them quite literally and this helped the children understand that their instructions had to be more concise and clear. We redrafted our writing to make it perfect.

In numeracy this week we have been focussing on division using the formal written method. All of the children have grasped the concept brilliantly and did great at their whiteboard and jotter work. We will be moving on to doing measurement next week as our last few beyond number slots have unfortunately been disrupted!

We learned that our new topic is going to be space and we did a short introductory lesson on it. The children had lots of great and insightful questions and this allowed for a great conversation and gave everyone the chance to share any knowledge they already have on space. The children already knew so much including the names of the planets and their order. I drew the orbit of each planet on the board and we talked about how long it takes for each planet to do one full orbit of the sun. We learned a mnemonic to help us remember the order of the planets from the closest to the furthest away from the sun. We then used our dictionary skills to look up the definitions of some space themed words.

For our health and well-being this week, we finished up our ‘farm to fork’ unit and had the chance to think about things that make us happy. We drew things that make us happy on the ground outside with some chalk.

We learned about May and that this is an important month for Mary. We discussed why May is dedicated to her and we learned how to say a decade of the rosary. The children used their rosary beads to help them to pray the decade of the rosary.

On Wednesday we went to the woods at the back of the school to litter pick. Every class in the school took a turn and had a designated area to help clean up the local community! Primary 3 did an awesome job and the woods and path looked much better after we were finished.

Well done to this weeks hot chocolate and special table winners!

I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend and the sun keeps shining for everyone!

Miss Duddy
