Primary 1B Learning Highlights 16th January 2026

This week we read the story  The Curious Polar Bear. We then drew our own polar bears and created the Northern Lights using chalk pastels. We had great fun blending all the colours and we were so proud of the end result.

In Literacy, we have been learning all about the letters l and r. We have been using these sounds to read and write words. In writing, we wrote a sentence about a frog on a log. All the staff were very impressed at how well we sounded out the words we needed.

In Maths, we have continued our work on subtraction and learned the strategy of using a number line to help us. We enjoyed using our own mini pointers to jump back on the number line. We have also been learning to count in steps of 2.

In RE, we learned about the baptism of Jesus and as part of our work on God’s Loving Plan we spoke about how important our families are.

We have started our new topic all about Scotland. We learned where Scotland is on a world map and also plotted Livingston on a map of the UK. We used Google Earth to find our school.

In PE, we have been using the benches and mats to practise our balancing and jumping for gymnastics.

In Science, we learned about the main parts of the human body and completed a Seesaw task to label them correctly.

Here are some of our personal highlights:

Hanna – I enjoyed playing the shark game.

Mikayla – I enjoyed doing Science.

Aria – I enjoyed playing with the linking chains.

Eloran – I enjoyed playing games.

Alayha – I enjoyed colouring in.

Grace – I enjoyed doing writing.

Congratulations to Eloran, who is our Hot Chocolate Winner this week. He has shown confidence in writing this week and is always helpful in the classroom.
