Primary 1B Learning Highlights 17th April 2026

We have had a great first week back in P1B!

This week we have been learning all about plants and flowers. We talked about what plants need to grow, the lifecycle of a plant and how to plant a seed. We got to plant our own sunflower seeds and we wrote instructions about how to plant a seed and we used our new common word ‘put’.  We are very excited to see how quickly our plants grow.

In Literacy, we have been learning the ‘oo’ and ‘igh’ sounds. We got to play some games to read and spell words with these sounds.

In Maths, we have been practising using a counting on or counting back strategy to complete addition and subtraction sums. We also did our first Building Thinking Classrooms task. We had to connect coloured dots without crossing the lines. We got random partners and we were very good at writing our partners ideas when we had the pen.

For Outdoor Learning, we read the book ‘Not a Stick’ and then found sticks in the wood and used our imaginations to change them into something else. We also did some bug hunting and played on some obstacle courses that some upper area classes had made.

We all agreed the highlight of our week was planting the seeds.
