SLT Update - 11th September

This session, we are planning to add a regular update from the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) which shares our highlights of the week.  This will be written by Mrs McKissack, Mrs McLaughlin or Mrs Callaghan and will hopefully give a brief overview of some of our learning highlights or events that have happened during the week.

Woodlands Trust Green Tree Award

This week we are delighted to share some great news about the Woodland Trust Green Tree Schools Award.  This is an award that we have taken part in for a number of years.  The purpose of the award is to  encourage outdoor learning and environmental action by inspiring pupils to care for trees, woods and wildlife through practical, hands-on projects.  We already have our Gold Award and during last term, every class in the school contributed to the evidence required to apply for our Platinum Award.  We were delighted to learn that we have been given this and the Platinum Plaque has been proudly added to our award which is in the Woodlands.  Huge congratulations to everyone and huge thanks to the Staff Health and Wellbeing group for leading this and to Mr McGurn for collating all the evidence.

P7 Cross Country

This week, some of our P7 pupils took part in the Deans area Cross Country race.  Everyone selected to take part represented the school so well and we are delighted to report that the Boys team came second overall and the Girls team were 3rd.  This means that everyone progresses to the West Lothian Final to be held in Bathgate later in the year.  Well done P7!

Attendance at Mass

We have now organised our Mass calendar for this term with Fr Kevin and P7 and P6 have now attended their first Mass of this school year.  This week P6B attended with Mr McGurn and Mrs Timmins.  We are always so proud of how our children represent the school and their families in the church.  We love being part of the St Peter’s community and feel very welcomed by the parishioners and Fr Keven.

PFA and Parent Council

The PFA held their first meeting of this year on Monday and were delighted to have some new faces along to offer support and ideas.  Look out for information about the initiatives and events that they are planning to support the school this session.  We have already had a very generous donation of new high-vis waistcoats for P1 to keep us safe in the playground and wider community, for which we are very grateful.  New members are always welcome.  Extended family members are also welcome to support the PFA.

Our first Parent Council of this session was due to take place yesterday but unfortunately will require to be rescheduled due to low attendance.  Our Parent Council plays an important role in building a strong partnership between home and school, helping to support school improvement and ensure that parents’ views are heard. We know that family and work commitments can make it difficult to attend every meeting, so being a member is not a large commitment, and there is no expectation that you attend every meeting. Any support you can offer, however small, is greatly valued and helps strengthen our school community.  Please look out for the new date and come along if you can.  Please note that the Parent Council is for parents/carers only.
