We’ve had a busy and brilliant week in Primary 5A!

In maths, we continued our work on place value and explored rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 using our BTC strategies. We also revisited our learning in time, practising reading both analogue and digital clocks and using AM/PM in 12-hour time. We’ll be moving on to 24‑hour time next week.

In literacy, our spelling focus was ‘ur’ and ‘ure’ words, and we completed comprehension tasks on Part 1 of ‘Wonder’, seeing the story through August’s perspective.

During R.E., we learned about ‘The Canticle of Creation’ by St Francis of Assisi. Working in groups, we created posters based on different verses of the prayer.

In topic, we continued our journey into Ancient Rome, learning about Roman society and government. We researched roles such as emperors, senators and soldiers, and even held a lively debate on whether life would be better in modern Scotland or Ancient Rome. To finish the week, we explored Roman statues and created our own clay busts, inspired by traditional Roman sculpture.

Pupil Highlights

• Cameron, Owen, Lillian and Katie really enjoyed rounding in maths.
• Tiya, Ruth and Alex loved learning more about Ancient Rome and creating their Roman busts.
• Enso and Faye had great fun playing Mind Reader on Friday, working in partners to choose different answers to prompts given.
