P1A Week Beginning 21st September 2026

Hello P1A families!

This week’s highlights come from the Blue table.  I hope you enjoy:

Bianka enjoyed our visit from the Guide dogs (see previous post) this week.  The children were very excited to meet them and hear all about the important work they do.

Cooper said that the lesson on the sense of smell was his favourite.  The children sat in a circle and smelled different things that were passed around (vinegar, coffee, caramel syrup, ketchup, toothpaste and shampoo) then they smelled some empty containers that once held that item and had to match up the smells.  Cooper’s favourite smell was vinegar!  We learned all about the nose and that it is really important to look after our sense of smell and not put anything up our nose.

Levy liked looking in the mystery box to see what was in it for our ‘p’ sound.  We found a plant, a pig mask, purple playdoh, a pink pencil and a pot!

Nathaniel loved smelling Mrs Brown’s perfume (relating both to ‘p’ and to ‘smell’ learning).

Joshua really enjoyed watching the popcorn maker pop the kernels!  There was squeals of delight as the first few sprung out and bounced out of the bowl!

My highlight was watching the excitement of the children when I turned a classroom desk upside down and converted it in to a washing line so they could peg up the common words, sounds and numbers we have been working on so far.  If your child asks to help peg the washing up, you know why!
